Thank you, to all our participants, sponsors and patrons, for making the
inaugural Central Florida Film Festival (CENFLO) a successful one.
A special thanks goes to http://www.employmentgiant.com who sponsored
our seminar and panel series. The seminar series itself wouldn't have been
successful without the participation of David Fazekas of the Screen Actors
Guild, local entertainment attorney, Bill Whitacre and producer Chase
Chenowith. Chase not only appeared on our financial panel, as a last minute
replacement for author Louise Levison, but did a 'Question and Answer' after
a screening of his film "Undertaking Betty," courtesy of Miramax and Walt
Disney Pictures.
Most of all, I would like to thank all the talented filmmakers. It was a very
competitive competition. The fact first prize in our short competition went to
the shortest ( 5 minutes) and least expensive (approximately $300) film is a
tribute to filmmaker Eli Pena. Eli, a resident of St. Augustine, Florida, took
home a plaque and the $500 first prize. Eli is sure to have a long and
prosperous career as a filmmaker and why not? His first feature is already in
profit!
In the feature competition, 'Beautiful Dreamer' a World War II period piece
took top honors and the $1,500 grand prize from thriller 'ZZYZX' which was
directed by UCF graduate Richard Halpern and written and produced by
Longwood resident Art D'Alessandro. Close behind in third place was the
delightful documentary "Plagues and Pleasures of the Salton Sea."
The dates for the 2nd Annual Central Florida Film Festival have been
announced. We will see you all again from Friday, August 31, 2007 thru
Monday (Labor Day), September 3, 2007. Part of our opening festivities will
include screenings of this year's winners. I am also pleased to announce
that next year Documentaries will have their own category and we will have an
award for 'Fan Favorite.' This will be in addition to our short and feature film
categories.
Special kudos go out to the festival technical director, Timothy Anderson and
his assistants Joel and Trish and to my Deputy Director Ginger Hudson.
Without their help the festival would never have gotten off the ground. Most of
all, I would like to thank Brandon Arrington and the staff of the Osceola Center
of the Arts for their commitment in bringing a new showcase for filmmakers
to Central Florida.
Remember to keep watching this website for new and exiting
announcements.
Sincere Regards,
Bob Cook
